David Haley Cooke passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, surrounded by the unconditional and unwavering love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Henry Cooke, Sr.; his mother, Jacqueline Felts Cooke; his beloved stepmother, Betty Cooke; his best friend and brother, Brant Parham; his stepbrother, Gilbert Carlisle; and many cherished aunts and uncles.
He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Leigh Banty Cooke, whose love and devotion make even the best love songs jealous. David’s legacy lives on through his three children (and spouses), cherished nieces and nephews, and his precious grandchildren.

Thanks to the expertise and love of his UNC nurse, Tammy Allred, his family was blessed to share 22 miraculous years with David.
David was a true patriarch of his family, and he will be missed beyond measure by everyone who loved and knew him.
In honor of David, the family hopes you share a crazy story involving him, creatively solve a problem (whether physical or philosophical), and take time to sit in the sun (perhaps with a cold beer). The family will host a Shindig of Life at a later date, to be announced.
Instead of donations, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This cause was close to his heart, and he was a loyal supporter.
