It is with deep sadness the family announces Donald Phillip Horton, 64, cast his last line on September 12, 2026.

Donald was born in Halifax County to the late Harold Lee Horton, Sr. and Barbara Alice Horton.

An avid fisherman, Donald loved to spend time at the water on a tailrace or bass fishing any time he could. He had a huge thirst and quenched it with his favorite beer, Natural Light — popping the top any time he had the chance. 

Donald was very country — lived in the country and was a hard-working simple man that loved hanging out with his buddies, especially after a hard day’s work as a pipefitter specialist, where he was considered a legend due to his work. Once he retired, he would spend his days out in his shed because he missed working so much, just so he could have the feeling of coming home after a long day’s work. 

In addition to his parents, Harold and Barbara Alice, Donald is also preceded in death by his uncle, William; maternal grandmother, Molly John Knox; paternal grandmother, Lou Mitt Horton; sister, Phyllis Horton; brother, David Howard Lee Horton; nephew, Tony Cater; and niece, Brenda Marie Horton.

Donald leaves to cherish his memory his longtime companion and wife, Tina Anne Germain Horton; daughter, Tiffany Horton Johnson; son by marriage, John Queen; sisters, Lisa Horton and Alice Faye Horton; brothers, Mike and his wife, Teresa; and Lee and his wife, Summer; nieces and nephews, Dawn Suess, David Horton, Heavenly Horton, Jamie Hargrave (Stella), Heather Hargrave, Shane Carter, Andy Carter, Murdock Horton, Jennifer Horton; two special great nieces, Alisson Hargrave and Harley Horton; many great nieces and nephews, two very special fishing buddies, Cecil Davis and P.B. Brown; and former wife, Nancy Hargrave, and stepchildren, Tracy and Karl.

A Celebration of Donald’s Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Union Hall, Downtown Roanoke Rapids, across from Abner’s. The family welcomes anyone who wants to share in this time of memory, reflection, and celebration.
