The Roanoke Avenue is alive and this Friday the 1000 block will be closed to traffic and open for dancing and enjoying Beach Music from Steve Owens and Summertime.  The Friday Night Live Block Party is free and gets started at 6:30.

n addition to the beach music, you can enjoy some great food and beverages from the Avenue Businesses, play cornhole and be sure to purchase several $5 raffle tickets for chances to win some great prizes.

The grand prize will be your very own backyard beach party.  When you win this prize, you can invite your friends and family over for a beach party in you backyard with Jay Jenkins providing the music. Jay is host of the Shaggin’ on the Beach radio show on Sunday afternoons on 97.9 FM.

There will also be some cash prizes and many gift certificates given to lucky winners of the raffle.  Those prizes are a $100 cash prize, 2 $50 cash prizes, a $50 gift certificate to Countryside Interiors, a $40 gift certificate to The Quality Shop, a $25 gift certificate to The 1020 Restaurant and Pub, 5 $20 gift certificates to Oscar's, a Free Meal at Connie's Cafe on Roanoke Avenue and a Gift certificate to It's All About You Florist and Gifts.  Raffle tickets are available at 2nd Street Lunch and will be available during the block party.

The music for the Friday Night Live Block Party is being provided by Steve Owens and Summertime.  This band has just released a CD.  There are 2 songs on that CD that are moving their way up on the beach music rating charts.  You’ll get to here them live this Friday night.

This event is being hosted by the Roanoke Avenue Business Alliance, RABA.  This is the Main Street Program for Roanoke Rapids which is beginning to see some good things happening on the Avenue.  New businesses are opening, businesses are fixing up the buildings and the city is making improvements to the sidewalks.

The Avenue is alive so come celebrate it this Friday night.
