The RRHS Varsity Baseball team opened their 2019 campaign with an 11-1 win over conference foe Granville Central this past Tuesday afternoon.

Jake Van Dam picked up the complete game win for the Jackets.  Van Dam allowed one unearned run while striking out 5 batters and allowing only 2 hits.

Leading hitters for Roanoke Rapids were Carson Neal, Trevor Harrison, Bennett Liverman, and Ethan Vincent with 2 hits each.  Cameron Medlin, AJ Strickland, and Jacob Deberry all had one hit each.

Coach Mark Snead stated, "Any time you can win your first game of the year and it be a conference game it is a good start to the season.  We are happy that we finally got to play a game with this weather to start the year. I am proud of how these guys played with such little field time.   Now we have a chance to analyze our strengths and weaknesses and work on them at practice."
