The Roanoke Rapids High School Lady Yellow Jackets softball team opened their 23-24 season on the road Thursday across town at the Halifax Academy Lady Vikings.

Roanoke Rapids beat Halifax 5-4.

A single by senior Berkley Garner on the board in the bottom of the first.

Madison Jones lined out, which helped Roanoke Rapids tie the game 1-1 in top of the third.

Lady Jackets Lydia Carroll gave Roanoke Rapids the 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth.

Garner homered to left field, scoring two runs in th bottom of the seventh, but the Vikings fell 4-5 to the Jackets.

Kalissa Williams earned the win for the Lady Jackets. The starting pitcher gave up up four hits and four runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out 11  and walking four.

Payton Odom took the loss for the Vikings going seven innings surrendering 5 runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking five.

Senior catcher Garner lead Halifax going 2-3 (single,homerun), 3 RBI;s. Maddie Bethel stole two bases.

Maecy Garriss and Jones each collected two hits for the Jackets. Carroll led the way with two runs batted in.
