DeLaMora officially honored as top trustee

Bernella DeLaMora was officially recognized as the 2015 Trustee of the Year by the Rural Community College Alliance.

The former Halifax Community College Board of Trustees chair was presented the award at the breakfast meeting of the RCCA Annual Conference on September 24 in Reno Nevada, HCC said in a statement.

Randy Smith, president of the RCCA, stated the national award is a way to honor the outstanding accomplishments and commitment of trustees who serve rural communities.“We are so pleased to honor Trustee DeLaMora as our National Trustee of the Year. Her commitment and service is a tremendous example to all of our rural colleges nationwide.

“I congratulate Trustee DeLaMora and Halifax Community College on their amazing accomplishments and the outstanding service they provide to all of their students, citizens and stakeholders. Halifax Community College is truly an example of an outstanding rural college and they should be very proud of their accomplishments and service.”

Hosted the fall 2015 Counselors Luncheon on campus.

Guidance counselors from area high schools attended the event.

HCC President Ervin V. Griffin Sr. welcomed the area counselors and HCC faculty and staff.

The keynote speaker for the luncheon was Rob Boyce, Northeastern North Carolina Career Pathways facilitator.

Antwan Garner and Tanner Miles, Roanoke Rapids natives and seniors at Roanoke Rapids High School, gave reflections on their experience while enrolled in HCC’s Career & College Promise program.

Hosted a Plus 50 Program Open House and Celebration on October 7 in Building 400.

The Plus 50 Program offers older adults tailored courses, flexible scheduling and more. During the open house, prospective students were given an overview of the program and heard from administration as well as instructors in the Certified Nursing Assistant, Effective Teacher Training, Human Resources Development and Career Readiness Certification programs. They also heard about the NC Career Center.
