John Glover believes his company's mantra of loyalty, character and a solid work ethic to be true when he hired Thomas Suiter 58 years ago.

Now that torch is being passed on to Suiter's son, Eric, who has been with the company for more than 20 years.

It is those qualities Glover Construction, a family-owned mass excavation firm in Pleasant Hill, looks for when hiring new employees.

Throughout their 63 years in business, they have reaped the benefits of hiring employees who were not just good at what they did, but high-caliber, responsible and respected individuals in their communities as well.

Suiter, known affectionately as Mr. Tom, began working for Glover in 1957. “From day one, he set a precedent for employees as he showed up for work with a positive attitude and has been loyal not only in his personal life throughout his 58-year marriage to Miss Barbara, but in his professional life as well.”

Glover continued, “Mr. Tom’s tenure and character have been the essence of what I have come to know and expect from all of our employees. He has embodied what this company, brand and family stands for through his constant and continued display of hard work, loyalty and dedication.”

Now Suiter, at 79-years-old, leaves the heavy-duty work to his son, Eric, who began as a high school student and has now been with Glover Construction for 27 years.

Eric embodies the saying “like father, like son,” and the characteristics Glover Construction has grown accustomed to experiencing from its employees – a sense of duty, loyalty and honor to one’s self, one’s family and one’s career.

Together, the Suiter father-son duo has been loyal to Glover Construction and the Glover family for a combined 85 years.

In honor of his dedication to the company, Eric was recently assigned to the company’s newest piece of heavy equipment, a Caterpillar 390F LME excavator.

The loyalty does not stop with the Suiter family, but extends to a large number of employees at Glover Construction who have become more than just employees, but family.

Currently, 55 employees have been with the company for longer than 10 years – committing themselves to the business through both administration and commercial, residential, airport, dam, highway, infrastructure, energy and landfill projects.

“Loyalty is one of, if not the most, important ingredients in a relationship,” Glover said. “For many years, Glover Construction has prided itself on relationships and we believe that loyalty should always be returned.”

Founded in the 1950s, Glover Construction has grown into one of the largest construction and mass excavation firms working on the East Coast.

Today, the company specializes in coal ash removal and disposal, site development for distribution buildings and power stations, and municipal solid waste landfills, with current and past projects having been completed in a variety of other states.

“With over 200 experienced and dedicated employees, the business has remained in the family for three generations and stays committed to consistently delivering finished projects on time, on budget and in a safe manner,” Glover said.
