A tractor-trailer carrying hog waste overturned this afternoon, leaking approximately 2,500 gallons.

Gaston Fire and Rescue Chief Ed Porter Jr. said this evening speed may have been a factor in the truck overturning as the driver was making a turn off Highway 48 onto Warner Bridge Road.
The tank had a capacity of 5,000 gallons and spilled half its load, Porter said.
Units responded to the crash around 1 p.m. and discovered what Porter described in a statement as the tank leaking heavy amounts of waste.
Traffic was closed and firefighters dug dikes around the area to stop the flow of waste from going into the storm drains. The 2,500 gallons had leaked prior to its containment.
Redwine’s righted the tank and cleanup was conducted by a private agency.
Northampton County Emergency Management and Northampton County Environmental Health were called to the scene.
Firefighters remained on scene for more than four hours. The state Highway Patrol is investigating The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
