Last year more than 1,000 new and slightly worn coats were given away, Tripp said. “It’s just another form of helping the children in Halifax County. Kids grow up fast and outgrow their clothes. It’s a way of helping someone else in need.”
Deputies see the need daily, Tripp said. “Talking with school resource officers, they see the need for a coat drive. It takes in the spirit of doing unto others as you would have done unto you. There is still a desperate need to help our children.”
Drop-off points for the coats are B&J’s Cash and Carry on Becker Drive and the sheriff’s office in Halifax. A pickup can be arranged by a deputy by calling Tripp at 252-578-6761.
