HCSO report: Speeding stop nets marijuana counts

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain A.M. Harris:

On Friday shortly after 9:45 p.m., Corporal P. Moyer stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 95 near the 168 exit for a motor vehicle violation.

Moyer could reportedly smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle during the stop and requested assistance.  

Deputy J. Comeaux and troopers of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to assist.

During the search Moyer seized approximately 45.7 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder, a box of plastic bags, small plastic baggies, a green pill bottle and a digital scale.

Moyer arrested and charged Darius Sneed, 25, of Dry Bread Road, Emporia, for possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance and exceeding the posted speed.

Sneed’s cousin, Jaquan Worrell, 20, of Brunswick Avenue, Emporia,was charged for possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Sneed and Worrell received February 7 court dates.
