“We are beginning to work on next year’s budget,” he said.

Finance Director Leigh Etheridge, he said, is working on revenue projections, but Scherer said in his report, “I am not anticipating any increase in revenues from the current year’s budget.”

Main Street Development Director Christina Caudle and Planning Director Kelly Lasky are working the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau to develop wayfinding signage for attractions and major points of interest.

Scherer said they have drafted a preliminary design for them and are compiling an initial list of locations. “We estimate it will take two to three years to fund all the signage needed, to include an electronic welcoming sign at the exit 173 interchange.”

A final design is expected to be presented at council’s next meeting.

At the city’s request, the state Department of Transportation installed two new pedestrian signs at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Tenth Street for those who have trouble seeing the traffic lights to determine if it’s safe to cross.

Events

The Benevolent Awards and Recognition Committee will host a fish fry April 13 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Builders First Choice on East Tenth Street, formerly known as ProBuild.

The $8 plates are to help raise money for the committee’s scholarship program.

Easter egg hunts are scheduled for March 24 at T.J. Davis and Chaloner Recreation. The T.J. event is at 9 a.m. and the Chaloner event is at 10 a.m. The hunts will be followed by carnival events.
