More charges have been filed against a Garysburg man allegedly responsible for a string of daytime break-ins and larcenies throughout Halifax County.

West

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office also announced follow-up investigation in the case resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly received items that Christopher West reportedly stole during the crimes.

Additional items have been recovered, including numerous pieces of jewelry, two more flat screen televisions, camera equipment and a safe, Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said in a news release. They have been returned to the victims.

The follow-up investigation led to the discovery of two additional break-ins and charges were filed against West to reflect them. West was jailed last week on $520,000 bond. The latest charges resulted in an increase of the 31-year-old's current bond by $20,000.

Waker

The sheriff's office charged Melvin Martino “Goose” Waker with possession of stolen goods after several of the items were allegedly recovered from the 33-year-old's residence in Roanoke Rapids.

Waker received a $5,000 bond and has an August 21 court date. Both West and Waker remain in jail.

West's arrest last Thursday brought to an end a string of mostly daylight breaking, entering and larcenies that were occurring since April 9.

The sheriff's office charged West last week with 12 counts of breaking and entering, 11 counts of larceny after breaking and entering, 11 counts of felony possession of stolen goods, seven counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, six counts of larceny of a firearm and four counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
