Friends and family placed small crosses draped in flowers to honor the memory of Brad Denning, who succumbed Tuesday night to injuries sustained in a collision with a motorist in June.

They met this evening at the intersection of Tenth Street and Park Avenue, the site were the 30-year-old was found when police and EMS arrived that evening.

“There are words I can't say to you,” his sister, Jennifer Denning Conner, said. “It's been a living hell.”

Not only did Denning sustain a broken leg, the area between his right breast and armpit was severely gashed and he sustained a severe head injury.

Denning, his sister said, was a generous and kind man. “Brad would give the shoes off his feet if he knew a man needed then.”

Morgan Joyner, who worked with Denning at Logan's Roadhouse hugged Conner, tears in her eyes. “It's been really tough. He didn't deserve that,” Joyner said.

Shelley Askew, who also worked with Denning at Logan's, recalled him helping her launch a balloon in honor of her father's birthday.

Denning's father, George, said a memorial service will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home on Jackson Street.

He said the family will provide medical records to the district attorney's office so it can be determined if further charges will be filed against Johnelle Moore, a 21-year-old Weldon woman who police say turned into the path of the scooter Denning was driving that night.

Police cited her for a safe movement violation by failing to see by turning from a direct line.

While Mr. Denning said it would be up to the district attorney and police to determine whether charges will be upgraded, he did say, “It's kind of ridiculous how the severity of the accident is and her not being charged with any more than two minor charges.”

While Moore is scheduled to appear in court on September 6 in the Denning crash, she is also scheduled to appear in court on September 18 for expired registration tags and following too closely in a separate matter, according to court records.

During his two months at Vidant in Greenville, Denning's prognosis seemed to get better and then changed for the worst. “They said it would be a long comeback,” Mr. Denning said, adding, “part of the comeback was a risk.”
