Lieutenant Joseph Sealey of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the vehicle break-ins occurred between the end of July and the middle of August.
The child was arrested at the end of August.
Besides electronics equipment and money, a firearm was stolen.
After investigation by deputies Eric Johnson and Harold Phillips, the Roanoke Rapids youth was charged with 12 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, six counts of felony larceny, larceny of a firearm and three counts of possession of stolen goods.
Sealey credited the work of Johnson, who observed the juvenile in the area of the break-ins and reported the youth's suspicious behavior in the areas of Highway 158 and Zoo Road.
Phillips investigated further, leading to the 15-year-old's arrest. “The quick response time and attention to detail of (the deputies) led to the development of the juvenile as a prime suspect and finally the arrest of said juvenile,” Sealey said in a news release.
Some of the property was recovered and will be returned to the victims.
