The final alleged suspect in an August 17 shooting is in custody following his arrest Friday night.

Collie Davis Jr., 22, faces three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in a shooting that Roanoke Rapids Police Detective Bobby Martin said appears to be the result of beef between a group of Highway 48 men and those from the South Rosemary area.

The nature of the differences remains vague, Martin said this afternoon.

Captain Andy Jackson said Davis, of Carter Street, was arrested shortly before 10 p.m. Friday after Officer Jesse Salmon stopped a vehicle he was in at the intersection of Vine Street and East Littleton Road.

It was not clear whether Davis was the driver of the vehicle or a passenger, but Jackson said Salmon recognized him.

Davis' arrest ends an investigation that began the evening of the shooting when a man was shot in the leg and a car with three people was shot into. “It's taken a lot of man hours and covered a vast area in South Rosemary. Bobby and Sergeant Jeff Baggett and Detective (Daniel) Hundley, along with A Team and Lieutenant (Andy) Bryant did a good job.”

Davis was jailed on $75,000 bond and has an October 16 court date.
