Magen Medlin was catapulted today into the national spotlight as the lead role in country music star Scotty McCreery's new music video See You Tonight.

The video premiered on Country Music Television and Taste of Country.

“They've gotten me a lot of jobs. This is the biggest job I got through them,” the Roanoke Rapids High School graduate and Meredith College junior said of her agency, Fuse Models and Talent of Raleigh, the agency she started with as a senior at Roanoke Rapids.

The producers of the video, which was shot in Raleigh and Nashville, Tennessee, contacted her agency and picked Medlin from her photos and experience. “They just went through the agency and thought my looks were best for the video. They asked if I was available and we filmed one day in Raleigh and flew out to Nashville and finished filming.”

Filming in Nashville was done the first week in August while the Raleigh segments were done the second week in July. Because of the film's military theme and part of the video was also shot on a military base, department of defense approval was needed.

A still from the video.

Medlin, the daughter of Lynne and John Simeon and Gary and Lori Medlin, is hoping her debut in a national artist's video will help her earn other gigs. “Hopefully, it will launch other videos or commercials in Raleigh or Nashville.”

Roman White, who has directed many of Carrie Underwood's videos, including Before He Cheats, oversaw production of See You Tonight.

With a rich resume of awards, it is possible See You Tonight could be another award-winner for White and help Medlin gain more exposure.

Medlin was never in any of the same scenes with McCreery. “The only time I saw him was in Raleigh. I never saw him in Nashville.”

Shooting went smoothly, she said. “We did different takes for different angles. It was a slow process and we had weather delays in Nashville.”

The video tells the story of a soldier coming home from a war and surprising his girlfriend, Medlin, with flowers and Krispy Kreme doughnuts. It was a role she had no life experience for but one in which she gained a greater appreciation for the military. “As far as my appreciation of the military, oh yeah, it's just that I never had to experience someone leaving. It made me realize how excited she would be.”

The video aired earlier today on CMT as well as online.

That it is already a popular song may work in Medlin's favor. “I'm hoping country music stars and producers will say, 'She did a great job.' You really never know. This business is about who you know and the luck of the draw. I was lucky they found me. I'm in love with the video. It's a great piece. I had so much fun. Not everyone can say they've been in a music video.”

Since the debut, Medlin, a media communication major who hopes to continue acting and modeling and pursue a career in broadcasting, has received nothing but favorable comments from friends and social media followers.

And family was pleased. “My mom said she cried and my dad saw it and sent a long heartfelt text message. John loved it and told me I did an awesome job. Lori called me with total excitement and congratulated me. It's great to feel that love.”
