Fatal fire victim in Enfield identified

A Saturday morning victim in a fatal fire in the Enfield area has been identified as Tavarus Evans, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant Joseph Sealey said the fire occurred around 1 a.m. at a residence on Ita Road.

No foul play is suspected and Sealey said it appeared the fire started from food cooking on the stove or the stove was left on.

It appears Evans tried to put out the fire but succumbed to smoke inhalation.
