A Roanoke Rapids woman is wanted after she and a friend who was arrested today allegedly stole an iPod Touch from the friend's relative and sold it.

Detective J.M. Clark of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Britney Marie Shaw, 20, typically frequents areas around Roanoke Rapids and is believed to have moved since the initial investigation began in July.

Shaw and Gay

Shaw's friend, Matthew Scott Gay, 22, faces charges of obtaining property by false pretense, larceny and possession of stolen property. The Roanoke Rapids man was arrested today and jailed on $4,500 bond. He awaits a September 25 court date. He was in jail, where he remains, on unrelated charges when he was served the warrants today, Clark said.

Shaw faces charges of obtaining property by false pretense, aid and abet larceny and possession of stolen property.

The charges stem from an investigation in July in which the pair allegedly stole the iPod from Gay's relative and then sold the property. Efforts are under way to get the device back.

Clark said the motive behind the alleged theft is unclear.

Anyone with information on Shaw's whereabouts is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
