One business was broken into when a door was pried open with a crowbar and an unsuccessful attempt made to punch a hole into another to gain access. A successful attempt was made to gain entry into a second business through a punched hole in the drywall.

The break-in was reported around 6:30 this morning by owners of China Lin restaurant on Premier Boulevard and most likely happened sometime between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., according to Detective Jeff Baggett of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Officer Thomas Massey responded to the call and discovered that entry was first made into the vacant Claire's building.

With nothing there, entry was then gained to China Lin where an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

An attempt was made to gain entry to Papa John's through China Lin by punching a hole through the drywall but that attempt was unsuccessful.

Access was then gained to Subway by using a crowbar to punch a hole in the drywall on the opposite side of China Lin. Police are still investigating to determine if anything was taken from Subway.

Approximately $1,000 to $2,000 in damages was done.
