Not only did someone break into his automotive shop and steal tools, they hitched his custom-made pig cooker to a truck and left with that.
Garner estimates the crime took place sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 7 this morning.
The owner of Everything Auto next to Frazier's, Garner said it appeared the culprits kicked a hole through the shop door and stole items like socket sets, wrench sets and a couple of grinders.
The theft of the pig cooker, however, was devastating as he planned to cook for a friend's wedding outside Goldsboro this weekend.
The cooker and trailer was a $10,000 investment Garner made himself. It using an electric wench, has three pot burners, a big storage box with a chopping block and a tub to fill with ice.
Not a competitive cooker, Garner said he built specifically for his sister's wedding and now uses it for family functions.
“It makes me sick I couldn't take the cooker to the wedding,” he said. “I'm calling around to see if I can find a trailer.”
Garner believes the tools will probably sell quickly. He has already checked with scrap yards about the cooker and thus far none matching the description of his has turned up. “They would be valuable tools. I'm really worried about the cooker. I built it for my sister's wedding, used it at my wedding, just for family functions.”
