Two Roanoke Rapids High School seniors have been nominated for the oldest, most prestigious merit scholarship program in the United States, The Morehead-Cain.

A committee at the high school nominated seniors Patrick Fiorilli and Brianna Jones.

"We are so proud of these students who will represent Roanoke Rapids High School's tradition of excellence so well,” said Tammi Williams, principal.

The Morehead-Cain identifies and invests in “promising leaders” by giving them the resources to gain a variety of experiences through their four years of college and four summers of personal enrichment.

The merit scholarship program provides a full scholarship that’s worth nearly $100,000.

"Both of them are outstanding students who are the epitome of the model student and they should be proud of their accomplishments,” Angie Lassister, Guidance Counselor.

High school seniors demonstrating outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and excellent moral character from select schools across the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and various other countries are eligible.
