A Facebook post led to a woman in Rich Square being beaten and hospitalized, according to the Northampton County Sheriff's Office.

Captain Chuck Hasty declined to elaborate on the post, but in statement Sheriff Jack Smith the victim came to the sheriff's office on December 5 to report she was assaulted by Marcus Jermaine Lassiter, 30, on November 26.

Investigation by Hasty, Smith said, led him to learn the victim woke up to find Lassiter allegedly standing over and then began to assault her for more than an hour.

The victim drove herself to the hospital the next morning for treatment of injuries that included a broken wrist, broken fingers and black eyes.

The victim told investigators the assault was over a Facebook post that Hasty said was made within the same timeframe the assault occurred .

Lassiter was arrested and charged today with first-degree burglary, assault inflicting serious bodily injury and assault on a female.

He was jailed on $53,000 bond and given a court date of January 2.

Hasty said the victim requires further medical treatment of her injuries.
