A man who allegedly tossed a bag of weed early Saturday morning was arrested on the drug charges as well as an outstanding order for arrest from Pitt County while a woman in the Enfield area was charged with marijuana possession when a deputy went to serve a subpoena at her residence.

Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the first matter occurred around 3 a.m. on Highway 125 in Halifax when Deputy Eric Johnson responded to a prowler call.

He found two people, including Ross Andrew Norfleet, who was arrested, walking nearby.

Johnson approached the men and noticed the 47-year-old Norfleet reportedly discarded an item.

Further investigation led Johnson to charge Norfleet, of Halifax, with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and the Pitt County order for arrest.

He placed in the Halifax County Detention Center.

The other man was released.

On Saturday around 1 p.m., Hall said Deputy Chris Boden visited a residence on Medoc Mountain Road in the Enfield area in an attempt to serve two subpoenas.

While at the residence, Boden spoke to the resident about the reported overwhelming aroma of marijuana coming from within the home.

Shalonda Pope, 34, allowed Boden to retrieve the marijuana from the home and was charged and released with a citation. Pope’s charges were possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She received a July 23 court date.
