Halifax Community College has received a $150,000 grant to construct the Roanoke Valley Fitness Interactive Trail.

The grant is from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem. The project will provide a 1/6 mile oval-shaped trail with three fitness areas, featuring multigenerational equipment.

Solar lights will provide lighting for the community to work out during evening hours.

There will be no charge to take advantage of the RV FIT.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the project will be held on June 30 at 11 a.m. on the Campus Green.

The trail is expected to open in the fall.

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust was established in 1947 and is now one of the largest private trusts in North Carolina.

Its mission is to improve the quality of life and quality of health for the financially needy of North Carolina.
