Weldon police Mark Macon is hoping a press conference at the spot on Ransome Circle where Reginald Tyrice Edwards was shot and killed the evening of July 17 will draw some attention to the case.

The chief said today he will use the Tuesday press conference, which will be at 3 p.m., to garner more leads.

“We're still interviewing people and following up on leads,” he said. “We're hoping we can get a break. We've got quite a few leads we're running down. We're trying to generate eyewitnesses. We want that person to come forward. We're relying on the community to share information.”

Besides media, Macon is hoping family members of Edwards will come as well as any town officials.

Macon said he is looking at scenarios of interest in the case, things that may have motivated the killing, which occurred late that evening at the intersection of Ransome Circle and County Road. “We have suggestions on what may have happened.”

He declined to discuss those scenarios because he believes it could hinder chances of getting the most accurate information. “Our people have put long hours into it, along with the SBI and local law enforcement which has been sharing information. We have canvassed the area heavily on Ransome Circle and Johnson and Hurley streets.”

Of particular interest, Macon said, is getting information from people attending a private party in the Johnson and Hurley street areas the same night as the murder. “There were people out there in that area as well as Ransome Circle.”

Crimestoppers, he said, will offer up to a $1,000 reward. That number is 252-583-4444. The Weldon Police Department may also be contacted at 252-536-3136.
