Those estimates do not account for the $120,000 it will cost to install a new system, which weighs in at 14,000 pounds, said Jim Miller.
Miller is charging the city $10,000 for his consulting work, which included a nationwide search that resulted in five companies that make this type of product, as well as finding a company with equipment that can lift and install a municipal indoor pool dehumidifier at the center located next to T.J. Davis.
“I became involved because I like to swim at the pool,” Miller said.
The estimates Miller found fall roughly in line with the initial $250,000 figure quoted in earlier city council meetings.
Through his contact with companies across the countries, Miller found two firms — Dectron and PoolPak.
“We looked at all variables,” said Miller, including reliability, cost and quality. Pemberton Incorporated was willing to quote a price on installation.
Miller said he was hopeful the two companies, which the city will send out bid requests to, will be willing to come down off their initial estimates.
Since this is a considered a maintenance issue there are no known grants for the project, City Manager Joseph Scherer said.
Scherer said following the meeting he would wait for the final bid submission before making a recommendation to council on how it would like to proceed on the matter.
