Roanoke Rapids City Council Tuesday night gave City Manager Joseph Scherer his performance evaluation during a closed session portion of the meeting.

“We are pleased with his performance,” Mayor Emery Doughtie said this morning. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with him.”

A pay increase was not discussed, Doughtie said, but will be considered at a later date.

Scherer began his employment with the city on August 14, 2012.

Meanwhile, the city announced council will hold a retreat on September 18 at 9 a.m. The retreat will be held at the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce on Highway 903.

“We're going to discuss short and long-term goals,” the mayor said. “The theater will be discussed and how we recruit new industry. We're going to continue to discuss funding for blighted houses and buildings.”
