Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said it was not clear why Kelvis Chamorris Pitt, 33, of Enfield was reportedly driving in the wrong lane on Lynch Road around 1 a.m, or why he allegedly led the pursuing deputy on a short chase.
The 1997 Lexus he was driving approached Deputy Chris Boden who was able to take evasive measures to avoid a collision.
Boden pursued the car for approximately a mile. In that time speeds reached more than 100 miles per hour before Pitt stopped on Silvertown Road.
Boden charged him with flee to elude arrest; careless and reckless driving; speeding, driving left of center, a stop sign violation and driving while license revoked.
He was jailed on $2,500 secured bond and awaits a November 5 court date.
