Halifax Regional Medical Center is welcoming a new executive chef.

Daniel Lees will oversee the medical center’s Food and Nutrition Services and has more than 25 years experience in food service.

Lees will serve as general manager under HRMC's contract agreement with Sodexo.

“Daniel’s years of culinary and managerial experience are a welcome addition to Halifax Regional. His personal philosophy about food and nutrition are truly in sync with the mission of our organization to build a healthier community,” said Bruce Robistow, vice president of Clinical and Support Services. “His improvements to our menu and food service experience will benefit patients, staff, and the community we serve daily.”

The announcement comes as HRMC is less than two weeks away from unveiling a completely renovated cafeteria. “The new cafeteria will be very inviting and have a modern feel, while also improving customer flow,” Robistow said,

Lees is a chef by trade and has worked in and managed restaurants, country clubs, private catering companies, but mostly in contract management companies.

He has managed K-12 programs, collegiate dining, corporate dining, long-term care and hospital accounts across the country.

During his tenure with Sodexo for more than seven years, Lees has served as a general manager, chef, and area general manager.

His focus will include maintaining exceptionally high food safety standards along with introducing a new café menu focused on Sodexo’s Mindful platform which offers fully satisfying portions with fewer calories and great taste.

Relocating from Western Pennsylvania is Lees’ wife Christine.

He also has two children, a son Joseph, a daughter Desiree, and a puppy Madeline.

In his free time he likes to cook, read, spend time with his family, and golf.

“He is looking forward to launching the new dining area and working with the staff to create lots of good food to nourish the patients, employees, and community members,” Robistow said.
