Pranks involving spraying ketchup and sauces on cars eventually led to a threat of gun violence at the Gaston Boat Landing Friday.

Captain M.D. DeLoatch Sr. of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said Detective P. Jacobs charged Dillon Tyler Irby, 18, of Roanoke Rapids, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats.

He was given a $38,000 secured bond.

The events that led to the alleged assault, DeLoatch said, began with pranks that involved spraying the contents of sauce and ketchup packs onto cars of those reportedly involved in the community and at school.

It also reportedly involves the threat of throwing a book bag in the river. It was at the river where Irby allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and threatened to kill him.

Sheriff Jack Smith in a statement encouraged people to resolve their issues in a non-violent manner and if assistance is needed call local law enforcement agency for help.
