The Garysburg Police Department is investigating two shootings that occurred Tuesday evening.

Chief Melvin Garner said this evening he is trying to determine whether they are related.

The first shooting occurred shortly before 5:30 on Truman Street near Highway 186.

Officers found a male had been shot in the back of the right leg from a moving car.

The three males with the victim could not tell officers about the vehicle or direction of travel.

Evidence collected at the scene shows there two shooters each using different weapons.

Further investigation determined there was a vehicle traveling west, which slowed down when a group of males were seen walking. The vehicle slowed down and shots were fired. “We're not sure whether the shots were intended for the victim that got shot but believe it was intended for someone in that crowd,” Garner said.

Meanwhile, around 11 p.m., the police department received a call on Highway 301 near Bush Street, only to find glass in the highway and a tip that someone was running away as shots were being fired.

Police could not locate anyone.

Garner said information was collected that a silver Chrysler 300 with tinted windows was involved.

It is possible that the shots fired from the vehicle could have shattered a window in the vehicle, Garner said.

The casings collected at the scene differ from the ones collected in the earlier shooting.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Garysburg Police Department at 252-536-2167 or the Northampton County Sheriff's Office at 252-534-2611.

The sheriff's office and the Gaston, Garysburg, Jackson, Seaboard and Woodland police departments assisted.
