A man and woman were pulled from the Roanoke River after their canoe capsized today.

While full details were not immediately available pending a complete investigation, Sergeant Carl Hatcher of the state Wildlife Resources Commission said both were transported for the treatment, the man being treated for hypothermia and the woman apparently OK.

Water temperatures in the river are currently between 45 to 50 degrees, Hatcher said.

Hatcher said the couple put in at the Rockfish Captial Bridge before the canoe overturned.

They were in the water for 15 minutes after the boat capsized. It was not immediately clear how they called for help, Hatcher said.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said Weldon Police Department Officer Derrick Moore pulled the couple from the water.

Hatcher said enforcement Officer Patrick Brown is continuing his investigation.
