'Smurf' takes plea in Tann murder

Herman Lee “Smurf” Edwards has been admitted to Central Prison in Raleigh after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Lorenzo Tann Jr.

As the family of Leslie Fishel waits for a new trial date, court documents in the case of the man charged with second-degree murder and other counts in her death give further insight into the events that occurred which claimed her life.

Minister's case continued until July 30

A Roanoke Rapids minister facing a count of indecent liberties with a child had his first appearance in Halifax County District Court continued Wednesday.

Documents filed in the Halifax County Clerk of Court's Office further explain the indecent liberties with a child count lodged against a local minister and also suggest a possible obstruction of justice in the case.

Mills' bond was reduced from cash to secured
