Commissioners OK 2014/15 budget plan

Halifax County commissioners today adopted their $37,064,468 budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

A man who allegedly tossed a bag of weed early Saturday morning was arrested on the drug charges as well as an outstanding order for arrest from Pitt County while a woman in the Enfield area was charged with marijuana possession when a deputy went to serve a subpoena at her residence.

The Halifax County Health Department has added electronic cigarettes to the list of smoking products banned from inside its buildings and vehicles, as well as within 50 feet of its buildings.

Halifax County commissioners agreed today to send a request to the state Wildlife Resources Commission for a safety study to determine whether a no wake zone is needed in Poe Creek.

The biggest recommendation coming out of a series of public workshops, phone surveys and workshops with area high school student is that Halifax County should consider establishing a parks and recreation department to better serve the needs of its citizens.

Elections board dismisses primary protests

The Halifax County Board of Elections Tuesday night dismissed protests of the May 6 primary lodged by two local residents.

The Halifax County Board of Elections this evening will examine protests filed concerning perceived irregularities in the May 6 primary.

In his message that will accompany the upcoming fiscal year budget on public inspection until a June 2 public hearing, Halifax County Manager Tony Brown this morning officially announced the county's proposed financial plan will contain no tax increase.

Scam threatens arrest if debt not satisfied

A new scam, the last one reported today, makes threats of arrests should be the victim not satisfy a past due debt, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office reports.
