Harbor Freight Tools opening in city

Harbor Freight Tools, which has 750 locations throughout the country, plans to open a store in Roanoke Rapids.

The Roanoke Rapids Planning Board begins a second round of discussions Thursday on a rezoning request which could lead to the construction of senior apartments on Becker Drive.

Crash knocks house off foundation, DWI charge lodged

A West Fifth Street house was knocked about a foot off its foundation Tuesday night after a pickup crashed into it.

A well-known bargain outlet center will bring to completion the development of the old Walmart on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

The public will have a chance to give its input on three potential streetscape concepts for Roanoke Avenue at an upcoming workshop this month.

The Roanoke Rapids Planning Board began discussions this evening which could lead to recommending to city council less stringent regulations on electronic gaming operations while possibly tightening rules for nightclubs.

City took lead in post office paving project

The City of Roanoke Rapids helped lead an effort which has led to the completion of an extensive paving project at the post office.

A rezoning request could bring a retail development to the Highway 48 area pending approval by city council while a separate conditional use permit request could fill in coverage gaps for a cellular service provider.

Documents filed within the Roanoke Rapids Planning and Development Department tie the Project Chips economic development project to the proposed operation of a chip mill at KapStone.
