Rocky Mount man dies in I-95 crash

A Rocky Mount man died Monday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95.

The city has been awarded a $200,000 North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant which with funds received from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and local matching funds will mean $400,000 allocated for improvements at Chaloner Recreation Center.

A validated write-in candidate is running for a seat on the Halifax County Board of Commissioners in November.

Roanoke Rapids students back in school

Roanoke Rapids students returned to class today and here a few scenes of opening day.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division conducted several undercover operations throughout the week resulting in multiple arrests, including one in which an alleged suspect texted a deputy to make a sale.

1026 green space water feature installed

The water feature at the 1026 Roanoke Avenue urban green space has been installed and the city’s public works department is working on tweaks to the system which allows the water to fall down metal screening and into a tank.

Food Lion will offer its Food Lion To-Go grocery pick-up service at its store located at 2500 West Tenth Street beginning Monday.
