Durham, North Carolina and part-time Lake Gaston resident Kim Rice made it a three-peat, winning her third consecutive ‘Crossing’ Saturday. Rice scrambled ashore at the Dockside Landing Complex long before her closet competitor, but not close to the record time of less than 21 minutes she set in 2009.

Weldon City Schools Board of Education hosted a community forum Thursday to introduce a proposed policy that would mandate all students who participate in extracurricular activities maintain a passing grade in all classes.
An account has been set up at First Citizens Bank in Roanoke Rapids to help defray some of the costs of funeral services for Marquisa Moody, the five-year-old child who was shot to death Monday when a rifle was mistakenly discharged.
The child’s funeral was today at 11 a.m.
