The county continues to negotiate with a research and development company expected to bring 65 jobs to the old Roanoke Rapids Airport.
Halifax County commissioners opted tonight to take $2.072 million from its fund balance to save cutting jobs and hours.

Fire destroyed one of the buildings at Little Bees daycare in Garysburg this morning.
Garysburg Volunteer Fire Chief Nathaniel Ausby said the department received the call around 4:30 when the building’s alarm sounded.
When firefighters arrived the building, which is for smaller children, was engulfed and fire was blasting from the roof.
Firefighters from Garysburg and Gaston fought the blaze on Highway 301 for about two hours.
It is unclear how the fire started or where it started. Ausby said the State Bureau of Investigation has been called to determine the origin. No one was at the building when the call was received.
About $25,000 of the $200,000 the city received from the Golden Leaf Foundation will go to the Main Street coordinator in Roanoke Rapids. Another $12,000 to $15,000 will go to marketing and advertising.
