While snowfall amounts are expected to be light, falling temperatures tonight will create hazardous travel conditions, the National Weather Service in Raleigh reported this morning.

A wintry mix of rain and snow began this morning.

It is expected to change to primarily snow after 10 a.m. and end from west to east by 7 p.m.

The most likely area for accumulation is along and north of the Highway 64 corridor.

Key Hazards and Impacts

Snowfall: Most areas will see a dusting to 0.5 inches, primarily on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Reasonable High-End Scenario: Some localized areas could receive 2 to 3 inches if a period of all snow develops.
Black Ice: As temperatures drop below freezing tonight, any lingering moisture or ponding on roads may freeze. This is most likely east of I-95.
Extreme Cold: Wind chills are expected to reach the teens to lower 20s tonight into Monday morning.

Timing and Location

Snowfall: Black Ice/Cold: Hazards will persist from tonight through Monday morning. Temperatures are forecast to rise above freezing by 10 a.m. Monday.

Monday Lows: Widespread minimum temperatures in the upper teens to low 20s are expected across the region.
