A Warrenton man has been charged in a three-county crime spree that began last month.

On March 18 Deputy H. Phillips with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Shelton Rhodes, 48, for breaking and entering of a motor vehicle at a residence off Highway 48 in the Roanoke Rapids area.

Rhodes also had outstanding warrants from Vance County for felony larceny, first-degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen goods and possession of burglary tools.

He was given a $220,000 bond and authorities from Halifax, Vance and Warren continued the investigation, according to a press release from Detective R. Rooks of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The detectives investigated numerous cases in which Rhodes was allegedly identified as a person of interest.

That investigation allowed Rooks and Detective O. Wiltsie, also of Halifax, to make further charges against Rhodes for two counts breaking and entering, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, attempted breaking and entering and injury to personal property.

These charges were linked to a series of crimes that occurred from March 12 to March 18 and led to $50,000 being added to his bond.

He was also served with outstanding warrants from Vance County for possession of stolen goods, larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, and breaking and entering a motor vehicle. He was given a $30,000 bond for those charges.

Warren County served him outstanding warrants for breaking and or entering, felony larceny, injury to personal property and assault with a deadly weapon.

An additional $10,000 bond was added.
