A follow-up investigation by Roanoke Rapids police Wednesday led to an arrest by Halifax County narcotics agents after marijuana was discovered at a residence on Frank Road.
Frank Road is located off Smith Church Road and is in the county.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Agent A.M. Harris said Detective Jeff Baggett of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was conducting a follow-up investigation and conducted an interview Daniel Joseph McCrary.
The purpose of the follow-up investigation was not immediately known. Harris said in a press release, however, McCrary gave Baggett consent to search the residence and he allegedly found marijuana pipes, dried marijuana and two growing marijuana plants.
McCrary said in a telephone interview he told Baggett, who investigating a stolen shotgun, that he never gave Baggett consent to search the residence, only that he could look around but not go through personal items, drawers, closets or cabinets.
Baggett contacted Roanoke Rapids narcotics agents, who then contacted Halifax County, which was the proper jurisdiction to handle the drug case.
Halifax County narcotics agents obtained a search warrant and seized drug paraphernalia and two other marijuana plants from the backyard of the residence.
McCrary was charged with manufacture marijuana, maintaining a dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia. McCrary was given a $5,000 bond with a November 7.
Lieutenant Scott Hall of the sheriff’s office praised the work of Baggett. “Because he was at the right place at the right time, through his investigation and initiative he stumbled across this and led us to a very good case.”
