The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:
On October 22 at approximately 6 p.m., Officer J. Benthall responded to the area of Chick-fil-A on a disturbance call.
Three young adults alleged they were shot at while leaving Roanoke Rapids Smoke Shop.
Benthall determined Kaid Al Ameri, 51, from the Roanoke Rapids area, shot a handgun and appeared to be intoxicated.
A search of the business revealed a spent shell casing and a handgun that was reportedly fired. A further check of the firearm revealed it was stolen out of Garysburg.
Officers also discovered Al Ameri was wanted out of Forsyth County on charges of crimes against nature, assault, solicit prostitution and assault on a female. He has a November 5 court date on those charges. There was no further information immediately available on the Forsyth County charges.
Benthall charged him with assault by pointing a gun, possession of a stolen firearm, resist, delay and obstruct, and discharge a firearm in the city limits. He received a $45,000 bond and November 1 court date.
Martin said this afternoon Al Ameri didn’t give a clear reason on why he reputedly fired the shots.
Martin said there will be a follow-up investigation. Al Ameri is in the country on a visa, Martin confirmed.
C. Babb, Sergeant D Hundley, officers C. Walker, S. Blythe, and J. Rowland assisted.
On October 24, Officer Clifton Walker responded to the area of Whitaker Street about a dog biting a juvenile.
He was responding to the residence to follow-up on the dog bite from earlier when the dog got out of the house and attacked the officer.
The dog was captured without injury and placed back in the owner’s home.
Walker was bitten on his lower calf area and in his forearm.
Animal Control Officer P. Wilson arrived on scene and secured the dog in accordance with the Roanoke Rapids City Ordinance.
The owner was identified as Bradley Keith, 28, of Roanoke Rapids.
He was cited on a city ordinance for his dog running at large and committing an attack while off premises.
The juvenile did not need medical attention, but Walker’s bites on his arm required medical attention and he was treated and released.
