Jvon Martin was taken into custody this morning and was being held without the opportunity for bond for a parole violation and was assigned a $500,000 bond for charges filed against him for two armed robberies in Roanoke Rapids.
City police detectives confirmed Martin is also a reported suspect in a larceny that occurred early this morning at the Highway 125 New Dixie Mart.
Detective Frankie Griffin confirmed agents with the City County Drug Task Force took Martin, 27, of Weldon, into custody in the Weldon area after receiving information on his whereabouts.
Martin is charged in two armed robberies, one that occurred Sunday night at Windchase Apartments and one that occurred on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway Tuesday night.
Following both robberies, the victims' vehicles were stolen. Both vehicles have been recovered, the Corolla stolen Tuesday night and an Explorer stolen Sunday night.
Both vehicles were found abandoned, the Explorer after a chase with Weldon police where the driver stopped and fled, Griffin said.
Martin covered his face with the hood of his jacket as Griffin and Detective Bobby Martin led him to a patrol car. He had nothing to say when asked for a comment.
The Sunday robbery occurred around 11:45 at Windchase Apartments and Martin faces charges of first-degree burglary; four counts of second-degree kidnapping; robbery with a dangerous weapon; possession of a firearm by a felon; discharging a firearm in the city limits; larceny of a motor vehicle and discharging a weapon into occupied property.
Those charges stem from an initial investigation into a burglary call by Lieutenant Jeff Baggett, Sergeant Richard White and Officer Matt Hunsucker who learned that a man later identified as Martin entered the residence and demanded money from those inside.
Several rounds were fired inside the residence.
In the Tuesday night robbery Martin faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon
That robbery occurred around 7:30 on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Officer Joey Spragins learned a victim picked up a person in Weldon to give him a ride. Once the victim got to Roanoke Rapids the man riding with him brandished a handgun and asked for money.
The victim complied and the person later identified as Martin took his car, a beige Toyota Corolla.
Griffin said a cooperative effort led to Martin's arrest. “It was the City County Drug Task Force, the Weldon Police Department and probation and parole. Teamwork works,” he said.
