A Gaston man faces charges including resisting an officer and communicating threats following a reported fight in Weldon on Saturday.

Weldon Police Department Lieutenant Lloyd Melton said that Delvonte Arrington was charged with resisting an officer, communicating threats, intoxicated and disruptive behavior, and assault on a government official.

According to his pretrial release form, the attending magistrate noted that Arrington, who was released Sunday on a $4,000 secured bond, was mouthy and belligerent toward himself and the officers.

Officers C.L. Foster and M. Griffin were on patrol around 2 a.m. Saturday when they were flagged down regarding an active fight between Garris and Grant streets.

Melton said the officers observed a large group of people fighting before Arrington was taken into custody.

The warrant alleges Arrington appeared intoxicated and interfered with traffic on Garris Street. It further states he yelled profanities and racial slurs at Foster while claiming he had a pending attempted murder charge and was not afraid.

He also allegedly demanded to be released from handcuffs.

The assault on a government official count alleges Arrington pushed a patrol vehicle door into Foster’s arm while being escorted from the cruiser.

Arrington is scheduled for district court on July 22.
