A second suspect wanted in connection with a May 9 attempted murder in Garysburg was arrested by Rocky Mount police last week.

He is scheduled for a bond review hearing Thursday, according to court records.

Jamison Jelonte Lee, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, was wanted in the shooting of a victim that occurred in the Lowes Court and Circle Drive area of Garysburg, Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Detective Ashley Collier said.

Lee faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Court records show he has been assigned an attorney and has filed an affidavit of indigency.

In 2017, Lee was convicted of felony conspiracy to commit second-degree kidnapping after entering a guilty plea to the 2015 crime. He was sentenced to 16 to 29 months in prison.

The other man charged in the case—23-year-old Jay’Lynn Clanton of Garysburg—was arrested later in May. According to court records, he is scheduled for a disposition hearing on July 23.

Clanton faces the same charges as Lee, in addition to a misdemeanor probation violation.

In 2023, Clanton was sentenced to 6 to 17 months in prison and 18 months of supervised probation following a conviction for felony fleeing to elude arrest. The offense occurred in May 2023.

Collier said the charges are the result of an investigation led by Detective B. Johnson after deputies responded to the shooting.

Sheriff Jack Smith commended the efforts of Johnson, stating, “We will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to apprehend subjects involved in crime.”

Deputy D. Pate, Deputy G. Williams, Deputy R. Mallory, Sergeant R. Battle, and Sergeant A. Johnson assisted in the initial response and investigation.
