Approval of absentee and provisional ballots by the Halifax County Board of Elections Wednesday changed the unofficial numbers which were reported following last week’s primary.
There were no drastic changes in the numbers and no race has thus far been altered. The official canvas of the votes will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the board of commissioners meeting room at the Historic Courthouse on King Street.
Of the 13 absentee ballots cast the board approved all but two due to them not meeting the postmark deadline.
Of the 47 provisional ballots cast 26 were approved, 15 were not approved and six were partially approved. The 15 not approved, board of elections Director Kristin Scott said, came from voters who ended up not being registered. The six partially approved came about from party changes in which the votes in non-partisan races were allowed.
The approval of the absentee and provisional ballots widened the 20-vote lead incumbent Commissioner Rives Manning had over challenger Chuck Hasty to 26, with Manning now holding a 2,758 to 2,732 lead. Manning remains the third highest vote-getter in the race.
Incumbent commissioner and current board Chair Vernon Bryant remains the top vote-getter with a total 4,176. Second-place winner and challenger Chenoa Richardson Davis now has a total of 3,477.
Enfield Town Manager Tyree Davis, who had a 3,007-2,871 lead over Chief Deputy Scott Hall now has a 3,016 to 2,883 lead. Challenger Jimmie Silver collected five additional votes to bring his third-place tally to 1,988.
In the Halifax County Clerk of Superior Court race incumbent Becky Spragins now holds a 4,366 to 3,166 lead over challenger James Mills.
In the District 7 District Attorney race, current Assistant District Attorney Kim Gourier Scott now holds an 8,571 to 8,079 lead over criminal attorney Jamal Summey.
Chief District Court Judge Brenda Green Branch has now earned 3,626 votes in the Halifax County Superior Court judge race while sitting judge Norlan Graves now has 2,165. Attorney Geoffrey Davis now has 1,929.
Incumbent state Representative Michael Wray now has a 10,853 to 2,886 lead over challenger Jerry McDaniel. McDaniel collected seven additional votes.
