A wind advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. through 6 p.m. Friday and in its aftermath will bring dangerously cold wind chills Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service Raleigh Bureau says frequent wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour will bring surges between 45 to 50 miles per hour Friday between 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The strongest gusts are expected in a one- to three-hour window during the early to mid-morning hours.

Branches and some trees will be blown down, resulting in some power outages while unanchored objects such as holiday decorations will be blown around. Conditions could make driving difficult.

Then late Friday evening through Saturday morning very cold temperatures combined with strong winds will result in wind chill values below zero.

The NWS advises to make sure pets or livestock have shelter. The agency also advises people to have a plan to stay warm and know how to safely and properly use a generator.

Wind chills values in the Roanoke Rapids area are expected to be around -4.

The maximum temperature Saturday is expected to be around 28 while on Sunday the max temperature is expected to be around 32.
