Roanoke Connect, a broadband service provider and a subsidiary of Roanoke Electric Cooperative, confirms its plans to begin building in the town of Halifax.

The expansion brings fiber internet to over 380 homes and businesses in this community.

“Halifax County is excited to be included in Roanoke Connect’s fiber project in the town of Halifax,” said County Manager Dia Denton. “This fiber extension will provide reliable high-speed broadband service to Halifax citizens, Halifax Town Hall, downtown businesses, county government offices, court services, Halifax County Library and the Historic Halifax State Historic Site, truly impacting all levels of government and area residents. Roanoke Connect continues to prove itself to be an amazing partner, showing innovation and determination in extending broadband service to our rural communities.”

Each new construction includes Fiber to the Home technology, commonly known as fiber internet. These broadband connections can reach speeds up to 1 Gbps and use a fiber-optic cable, which can send data as fast as about 70 percent of the speed of light.

In addition, fiber-optic cables are not as susceptible to severe weather conditions as other types of traditional cables, which helps minimize outages and resists electrical interference effectively.

“We are excited to bring high-speed fiber internet to yet another area of the North Carolina community,” said Bo Coughlin, COO of Roanoke Connect. “Internet access should be accessible to everyone, no matter where they live.”

Roanoke Connect offers a variety of internet speed options to best serve the needs and budgets of local residents and businesses.

The provider is committed to positioning the community for success when it comes to reliable connectivity for work, school and beyond.
