The town of Littleton has issued a boil water advisory effective immediately for all customers.
The advisory is necessary after a fire hydrant was hit by a vehicle causing it to break from the main and drain the elevated storage tank this afternoon.
Reports of little or no water pressure were phoned in from residents.
The elevated tank drained completely within 30 minutes after the line break.
Anytime a public water supply system water pressure is negative a boil water advisory is mandated by NCDENR Public Water Supply rules.
Customers of the town of Littleton are advised to boil water until further notice.
Water used for activities, such as drinking, cooking, making ice and brushing teeth, should be boiled for five minutes prior to use until the advisory is lifted.
Water will be tested and results will be available before the boil water advisory is lifted.
