Northampton County Veterans Resource Day, sponsored by Congressman Don Davis, will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 207 West Jefferson Street in Jackson.

It is a joint effort with the Northampton Memorial Library, the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Northampton County Veterans Services, and the Northampton County Veterans Advocacy Commission.

“As a United States Air Force veteran proudly representing the First Congressional District, which is now home to more than 56,000 veterans, I deeply appreciate the value of reaching out to our rural communities,” said Davis. “Events like the Veterans Resource Day demonstrate our community's respect for those who have put their lives on the line for our nation and their families.”

This Northampton County Veterans Resource Day will include an appreciation luncheon and Veterans Mobile Office Hours to serve rural veteran communities.

Veterans in attendance will also have the option to participate in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, which preserves the firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans.

During Veterans Mobile Office Hours, veterans can get resources, information, and claims assistance from veterans service officers, and congressional staff will be onsite to assist.

No veteran will need an appointment to get help during Veterans Mobile Office Hours.

Veterans Mobile Office Hours will continue during the veterans appreciation luncheon where the residents of Northampton County will gather to honor their veterans during a luncheon.

The Veterans History Project by the Library of Congress collects, preserves, and makes accessible firsthand the recollections of U.S. military veterans who served during World War I through more recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions.

Veterans can also share letters, journals, unpublished biographies, and pictures directly with the Library of Congress.

The day’s schedule includes:

Veterans Mobile Office Hours – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Veterans History Project collections – 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Veterans appreciation luncheon – 11 a.m. - noon

For more information on the Veterans History Project, please contact Lillie Pernell at the Northampton Memorial Library at 252-534-3571 or Rhea Pokala at Davis’s office at 252-999-7600 to receive the pre-registration packet and schedule an appointment time.
